Cardinals Fall To Brantford Sunday
BRANTFORD – Brantford ended the season Sunday with a 6-5 win over Hamilton in 10 innings. It was the Red Sox (12-30) sixth straight victory at Arnold Anderson Stadium, with all of them coming in August.
With the bases loaded and none out in the 10th, Jakob Cantor ripped the first pitch he saw from Fernando Rodney and over a drawn-in infield. It was Cantor’s third hit of the game and third RBI.
Lucas Lefebvre went 2-for-4 and drove in two, and Christian Ortega had an RBI. Rene Tachioka stole two bases and ended the season with 29 swipes to lead the IBL.
Jorge De la Cruz (2-2) tossed four innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed a run on two hits and struck out six. Leandro Mejia started and went five innings. He yielded four runs (three earned) on eight hits and struck out eight.
Brantford won six of its last 10 games to finish 12-30.
For Hamilton (21-21), Carlos Dominguez went 4-for-5 with a solo home run. Brandon Nicoll drove in two, and Jaden Brown singled twice and had an RBI.
Rodney (1-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing an unearned run. He gave up two hits and walked one while striking out three in an inning of work. Cardinals’ starter Freisis Adames was nearly untouchable in a one-hit effort over five innings. He walked one and punched out six.
Fifth-place Hamilton will take on Chatham-Kent in the first round.
