Larry Wood Legacy Award

For over 17 years, Larry Wood was the heart of the Hamilton Cardinals franchise.

He guided the organization through every high and low — through ownership changes, roster rebuilds, and community milestones — always offering his steady hand, his thoughtful leadership, and his unwavering dedication.

Larry never asked for recognition. He didn’t seek the spotlight.

But everyone in this organization — from players to staff to league officials — knew that Larry was the backbone. A coach. A mentor. A listener. A leader.

Beyond the Cardinals, Larry served the Intercounty Baseball League as a trusted voice of reason, and he helped shape baseball in this city as a founding member and the first president of Hamilton Cardinals Rep Baseball.

In 2023, Larry was awarded a Lifetime Honorary Membership in that program — one of many acknowledgements of a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

We’re proud to honour that legacy in a lasting way with the Larry Wood Legacy Award an annual recognition given to a Hamilton Cardinals player who represents Larry’s values of community engagement and a dedication to growing the game with youth, while promoting the Hamilton Cardinals organization.

Each year a player is selected and shown outstanding dedication to youth development and continues to give back to the grassroots level of baseball here in Hamilton.
