Cardinals sign WBC pitcher Carlos Teller for the 2025 season
The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Carlos Teller for the 2025 season.
Teller, a 38-year-old, left-handed pitcher from Managua, Nicaragua, began his professional career in 2004 when he signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as an international free agent. He made his debut with the Venezuelan Summer League Pirates, posting a 3.43 ERA in 123.1 innings from 2005 to 2006.
In 2008, Teller made his U.S. debut for the Gulf Coast League Pirates (Rookie Ball). In 13 appearances out of the bullpen, Teller earned a 4-0 record and 4.37 ERA across 22.2 innings.
After several seasons in independent leagues, Teller signed a minor-league contract with the San Francisco Giants organization in 2013. Initially assigned to High-A, he was quickly promoted to Triple-A Fresno, where he made just two appearances, allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings. Teller was then reassigned to Double-A Richmond, where he transitioned back into a starter, logging 44.2 innings over 11 starts.
Following his stint with the Giants organization, Teller pitched six seasons in Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) - one of Latin America’s premier leagues, and formerly recognized by Major League Baseball as a Triple-A equivalent, prior to the realignment of MiLB in 2021. From 2015 to 2021, Teller pitched 357.0 innings across 114 appearances and 64 starts, for clubs such as Pericos de Puebla, Olmecas de Tabasco, Bravos de León, and Generales de Durango.
Teller has spent the past four years pitching in winter leagues such as the Mexican Pacific Winter League, Venezuelan Winter League, Nicaraguan Winter League, and the Dominican Winter League, where he made 9 appearances this past season.
Internationally, he has represented Nicaragua multiple times, having pitched in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers in 2012, 2016, 2022, and 2025. Most notably, Teller pitched in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where he threw 2.2 shutout innings. In the WBC, Teller made relief appearances against Venezuela and Israel, where he won at-bats against notable MLB players such as Eugenio Suárez, Joc Pederson, Andrés Giménez, and Luis Rengifo.
With over 770 innings pitched in 15 professional seasons across the world, Teller brings a wealth of experience to the Cardinals’ pitching staff.
